Can Photos Tell A Story?
I listened to a podcast by another photographer this morning who stated that he doesn't believe photography is story-telling. While I agree that not all photography can tell a story (still life product photography), I absolutely feel photojournalism especially, plus lifestyle, documentary and most portrait photography does (most obviously when viewed in a collection, such as a blog or gallery). Take a look at a blog post filled with someone's complete wedding day photos, for example. The best photographers will have details of all the little things going on surrounding the bride and groom, which completely aid in telling the story of the day. Sometimes you can feel the warmth, hear the laughter, taste the cake, and feel like you were sitting there clapping with the other guests. What do you think? Are photos strong enough to tell a story?
